I’m not a democrat or a republican, but I am anti-fascist, so I’m not a big fan of Carter’s middle east policies.

The extremists from both parties usually ‘juice’ the opposite base.

Maybe because most of our foreign policy is based on Carter’s bad ideas. There’s his (and Brezinski’s) headless chicken policy towards the Islamists. Teaming up with the fascists to defeat communism – brilliant idea (not).

Then there’s the Carter doctrine:

Let our position be absolutely clear: An attempt by any outside force to gain control of the Persian Gulf region will be regarded as an assault on the vital interests of the United States of America, and such an assault will be repelled by any means necessary, including military force.

Which Reagan amended to any change in the balance of power in the Middle East. It was used to justify the Iraq war (to protect our beloved Saudi allies) and it’ll probably be used to justify actions in Iran.
