Taking the Iraq question seriously

Slate seems to actually be interested in discussing the question, rather than posturing about it:
To mark the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, Slate has asked a number of writers who originally supported the war to answer the question, “Why did we get it wrong?” We have invited contributions from the best-known “liberal hawks,” many of whom participated in two previous Slate debates about the war, the first before it began in fall of 2002, the second in early 2004. We will be publishing their responses through the week. Read the rest of the contributions.
The reaction to this should be interesting.

I like Slate’s choice of writer, too. We don’t often hear from people who might be genuinely conflicted about the Iraq war.

The three pieces they have up in this set have been great. I look forward to all the ones that will follow.
I must say, I enjoy Hitchens’ answer to the “Why did we get it wrong?” question: ‘I didn’t’.

Hitch is on my short list of people I’d love to invite to a dinner party. I don’t always agree with him, but he is so damned intelligent and entertaining that I listen whenever he has something to say.
