Two terrorists infiltrated a rabbinical seminary at the entrance of Jerusalem and opened fire after nightfall Thursday, police said. One person was wounded. Ambulances raced to the scene from around the city.
The seminary is the Mercaz Harav yeshiva in the Kiryat Moshe quarter of Jerusalem.
This is, unfortunately, an entirely new front.
And not new at all.

In Gaza City, residents went out into the streets and fired rifles in celebration in the air after hearing news of the attack on the seminary.

So it seems that the Oslo accords and the withdrawal that was sure to alleviate the bloodthirst of the Hamas type trumpeted by the peacenicks…did not.

No peace is possible between Israel and either the Hamastinians of Gaza or the Fatah-dominated gang in Ramallah. This in fact has been the true state of affairs since the local Arabs began treating Zionism as an enemy phenomenom immediately after World War I. And the only factor that keeps the Arabs of Trans-Jordan and Egypt at official peace with Israel is that their governments live on bribes paid annually by the US government.
But these and other arab governments are not in position to stop the terrorism any more than the US government or the government of any other outside country can stop the Jews from exercizing what they see as their ancient right to repopulate the entirety of the Land of Israel.
There really is only a single answer to the continual arab terrorism, and it has been the only possible answer all along, short of removing the entire jewish population from the Middle East.
That answer is to expel the Arab population to a a safe distance away from israeli population centers, and never allow any of them to come any closer than Israel’s security boundaries to the north, the east and the west. To the south, of course, there are only the Red Sea and the vast deserts of Arabia.
The permanent defense borders I have in mind are the Jordan river and Dead sea in the east; the Litani river gorge in the north; and the Suez canal in the west.
Israel, with its almost certain vast nuclear capability and its long range ballistic missiles which, with appropriate boosters, can now reach and precisely obliterate any target from the Atlantic ocean to the eastern borders of Pakistan, lacks only a suitable government leadership. When that leadership comes to power, it will be characterized by implacability and ruthlessness, which alone can save their country from its present death of 10,000 cuts.
This factor is important. Because Israel shall be compelled to defy much of the world in what it must do. The only international leverage that a small but intensively-developed country such as Israel has is the implied threat that, if their hand is forced, they can in fact turn the entire world of the Arabs and Iranians into a post-nuclear wasteland. And yes, those targets, in order to be considered a meaningful threat, would certainly include the oilfields and all the holy places.
At the end of 2007, there were 232,000 israeli Jews living in Judea and Samaria and another 250,000 or so living in the annexed eastern parts of Jerusalem. There almost certainly are many thousands more living in so-called illegal settlements outside of government control. This is now one of the fastest growing population subsets around, with an annual rate of increase of 5.2% and sometimes expanding up to 6%. Which means the population of Israel now living in these annexable or already-annexed lands will surpass one million in about 12 years, and can probably be counted on to double again by about 2035 or 2040.
So there is no return to the armistice lines of 1949-1967 and there never will be such a return. Any more than an omelet can be unscrambled and the respective yolks and eggwhites can be restored to their original shells and resealed there.
I think there will be war again in the north as soon as the Hezbollah army feels its strength in missiles sufficient to try yet again against Israel with main military force. When that happens, I think the appropriate response for Israel would be to conquer the lands to the north of Galillee, up to the Litani river, annex these territories exactly as they did with Golan, then start expelling at least the Hezbollah-influenced part of the local population back to the Baalbek area in central Lebanon.
In Judea and Samaria, I think the israeli version of urban sprawl that is now occuring on a large scale already has killed off any chance for whatever was left for a palestinian mini-state. The only thing remaining to them will be quasi-autonomous arab leaderships in cities such as Ramallah, Nablus, Tulkarem, Jenin, Qalqilya, Bethlehem and Hebron. Jericho, whose town leadership is devoted mostly to bringing in money and tourists, including Israelis, will be much easier to handle than the others.
The lands outside these larger urban places will, in time, be bought up for construction of many new isreali cities, towns, villages and farms.
The hardest immediate nut is Gaza, whose population of abut 1.5 million is compressed into a rat-hole with no viable economy either on the horizon or even possible, can best be handled in the short run by israeli military raids. These increasingly have been highly successful in targeting individual Hamas fighters, and include tactics such as assassination by computer-controlled drone aircraft, a specialty industry in which Israel has developed world leadership.
At the price of a relatively small number of victims in Ashkelon and Sderot, Israel’s pre-emptive and retributory military strikes can keep Gaza properly paralyzed until the big break comes.
What will that break be? Another Egyptian war. There already have been four, in 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973. So it is only a matter of time. All the wartime experiences have shown that the Sinai is in fact indefensible from attack from the east. And the almost certain result of any war in which a western-style trained and equipped army and air force such as Israel’s will trap any arab army caught west of the Mitla pass area east of the canal. I have spent some time there a few decades ago, and I know the land well.
When that comes to pass, and before any kind of settlement were made, it would be Israel’s opportunity to expel the Gaza population across that desert and deposit them across the Suez canal.
Would the world at large acqiesce in this? I think so.
For the same reason they acquiesced in the expulsion of some 16 million ethnic Germans from East Prussia, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania and Jugoslavia after World War II.
And for the same reason the world acqiesced in the forced expulsions of untold millions of Hindus and Moslems from their homes in what had been british-ruled India before 1948.
And for the same reason the world acquiesced in the expulsion and large-scale killings of the Armenians and Greeks by the Turks during and after World War I; of the Turks by the Serbs in the 1860s; of the Chechens by the present government of Russia; and the best example of all, the Indian tribes of North America by our own ancestors and those of the Canadians.
That, simply described, is the way the world really works. And the Jews of the world, if they wish to survive, had better muster their courage to play by the real rules of the world, not by the ones they think their deity gave them or that they apparently have dreamed up for themselves as an excuse for eternal national weakness. Because purposeful national weakness is a strategy that leads only to places such as Auschwitz.
