Conference room days

Glenn Reynolds got me all excited for nothing:

ANOTHER HOLLYWOOD SUICIDE BOMB: Wagner James Au emails: Not sure anyone’s pointed this out yet, but *Redacted* was a giant bomb, I mean just disastrous in relation to profile, ranking *50th* place in last weekend’s box office receipts.

Here I thought I was finally going to go see a movie, but “Redacted,” it turns out, is not what I thought it was. No, it’s another pro-surrender movie and it’s tanking. That’s fine, but I was hoping — from the title, you know? — that it was a movie about document production in a big law firm, as I wrote about in my never-written book, Boiling the Ocean (pdf). I was even going to go out and buy a new REDACTED stamp and everything — just to relive old times.

I can’t understand why no one makes movies like that!

UPDATE:  Contrary to some suggestions to the contrary in the comments, it appears that it may be a lot worse — not a lot better — for “Redacted” than initial reports suggested.

I would take a fantastic screenwriter to do that, and of course, they are all on strike…

No that I’ve seen Redacted or even plan to, but as you write/quote above “ANOTHER HOLLYWOOD SUICIDE BOMB: Wagner James Au emails: Not sure anyone’s pointed this out yet, but *Redacted* was a giant bomb, I mean just disastrous in relation to profile, ranking *50th* place in last weekend’s box office receipts.”

Perhaps you should check http://www.rottentomatoes.com/movies/box_office.php One MINOR detail you failed to mention is that the film is showing in only 15 theaters at the moment averaging 1.7K per theater. While not staggering thats 23rd on a theater average basis.

Might help to do the five seconds of fact checking I just did before posting something that makes you seem foolish.

I don’t feel foolish, Chip. Go throw spitballs at Glenn Reynolds if this is the hill you want to die on; I quoted his piece to make an entirely different point.

You’re right, after all — 23rd on a theater average basis is a great showing, really. Superb. Go get ‘em, Tiger! Bush lied, people died! — RDC

I know you don’t “feel” foolish. But you do “seem” foolish. And yes, I get it, your main point was that you thought it was some big law doc review movie at first and it turns out not.

But you also write “No, it’s another pro-surrender movie and it’s tanking.” I thought you and your one or two readers might like to know that your apparent basis for that statement is false and a distortion. Guess not though. Merry Thanksgiving, don’t forget about the 160K American troops who get to spend their Thanksgiving in the sand and away from their families yet again.

It’s not hard to find out how many readers I have, Chip. You’re big on box office homework — do some. Hint: There’s an answer right on this page! I am sure, however, you do not “feel” foolish.

The “apparent basis” for my statement may indeed have overstated the extent, but the fact still “seems” pretty clear.

Yes, I am grateful to the troops who volunteered to serve this country. For petty, bitter, anonymous blog commenters … hmm, not so much. — RDC

Oh keep going you two. Hell, I have to be at the ofc. for another hour. This is fun!

    Sorry — I tried! — RDC
