That thing doesn’t work — I’ll take two, please

Imperial Russia, which has already chuckled gleefully at the folly of silly Americanski missile defense, is so convinced that “star wars” can’t work that it’s threatening to hold its breath until the U.S. shares it with them. A Russian “lawmaker” (an odd phrase for a country whose democratic institutions are mostly for show) says it all in this one quote:

Kosachev argued building an antimissile shield without Russia wouldn’t be effective and [would be] counterproductive as Moscow would view it as a threat.

So ineffective that it’s a threat. Well, threats — that’s something these mafiosi know, as they attempt the time-honored technique of The Wedge:

“Our colleagues in Europe should understand this basic principle: Any attempt to build a security system without Russia (still less against it) by definition cannot be comprehensive or effective,” he wrote.

“Instead of security for Europe’s people we will have a new division and new targets on our densely populated Continent,” Kosachev noted, echoing warnings by other Russian officials that Moscow would be forced to target the anti-missile shield.

That will probably go down in well in quite a few European capitals — but not probably any of the ones that were the personal property of the Fraternal Comrades until a very short time ago. And it is those former “Eastern Bloc” (there’s another great euphemism for you) countries, setting up harebrained Ronald Reagan cowboy weapons, that has Moscow concerned.

God help us, sometimes we actually do something right.

    Ron,

Note how it is the countries who have actually LIVED under a socialist rule that are our strongest allies. Not the Euro-Poseurs who want “Soviet Lite” style governments.

Fashion is a nice thing to view on a model. It’s completely different when one has to actually wear the stuff.

    Respects,

Absolutely. Nice fashion metaphor. Red looks good on everyone else!
